RACINE ERICKSON'S BASEBALL CLUB
Racine Erickson's goal is provided a competitive baseball experience to our players and teach
them the athletic and sportsmanship skills to excel in this experience. The coaches hope that these skills not only are shown on the field but transend beyond the field and in their future personal and professional lives.
Racine Erickson's U10 team was established in 2007 and started play in the Spring of 2008. The team enrolled in the Wisconsin State Youth Baseball League (WSYBL). Erickson's was placed in the South Division with New Berlin Magic, Oak Creek Storm, Muskego Storm and perennial power Muskego Warriors. For 2008, this division appeared to be one of the toughest in the U10 division. The team faired very well going 15-4-1 in their first year of league play. The highlight of league play was a very well played game against one of the best teams in the league - The Memonomee Falls Indians (Gray). The MF Indians (Gray) ended the season with a record of 19-0-1. Unfortunately, the game ended in a rain/lightning shortened game with a score of 3-3.
Racine Erickson's also played in 4 tournaments during the 2008 season.
The team participated in the:
Racine Erickson's 12th Annual Memorial Day Classic Tournament
Border War V Tournament
7th Annual Old Timers Athletic Club Tournament
10th Annual Wisconsin Umpires Association Milwaukee Open Tournament
In tournament play, Erickson's seem to get off to the wrong start losing their first game 5-0 to the Pleasant Prairie Predators. In the following game, Erickson's allowed 8 runs in the top of the first inning to the Milwaukee Boss team. The team then seemed to wake up from the horrible dream and scored 8 of their own runs in the bottom of the first. Needless to say, the Erickson's team then went on to win this game and their first tournament championship. From that point there was no looking back as Erickson's won the rest of the tournaments going undefeated in all of them. The team ended their tournament season with a record of 16-1.
The highlight of the tournaments was the opportunity to play at Helfaer Field at Miller Park in the championship game of the Border War V tournament. The team played and beat a strong team from Pekin, Illinois by a score of 7-6. It was a great experience for our players and something that may never be repeated. The greatest memory not only will be winning the game and the championship, but Nick Bebow hitting a home run over the fence in the first inning. The excitement and the thrill echoed through the entire team and our fans.
The 2008 season was a great success and totally exceeded our expectations. The team ended their first year of play with an overall 31-5-1 record.
We can only hope that the 2009 season will bring greater experiences and memories that will last a lifetime for this team.
The story continues as the team prepares for the 2009 season starting with practices on February 15th.
